  • Five Reasons to Buy VoIP

    By admin | November 22, 2008

Believe it or not, there are still a few people out there
who just don’t get it when it comes to VoIP. With services
like Skype, or Google Talk, it is easy to confuse what a
    true VoIP plan really is.

Skype, Google Talk, and the like would be more accurately
described as PC to phone or click to call VoIP services. A
true VoIP service uses an adaptor, enabling you to make and
receive calls with your home telephone.

I think it is important people know the difference between
click to call and true VoIP when deciding on a VoIP plan.
For all intents and purposes we will be discussing five good
reasons to buy a true VoIP plan.

The biggest reason to buy a VoIP plan is also the most
obvious. VoIP is tremendously cheaper on both local and long
distance telephone service, plus available calling features.

Number two on our list would be the dynamic features of VoIP
phone service. VoIP enables you to have a phone number
outside your own area code. You can take your adaptor with
    you when you travel too.

Number three is the cost effective ability to add on to
existing service. Lets say you want a second phone line.
With VoIP there is no need to install new equipment, and in
most cases this will only cost around five dollars.

Number four is what I like to call the big trade off. By
switching from dial up Internet to broadband, and switching
to VoIP for phone service, you are acctually getting better
    service for less money.

Last but certainly not least, VoIP providers do not charge
hidden fee’s. Hidden fee’s can make up to 20% of your total
monthly phone bill. The only extra fee with VoIP is a 3%
federal excise tax based on usage.

In closing, when looking for a VoIP service, make sure it is
true VoIP. You only need a cable broadband or DSL
connection, plus an adaptor to get started. Look for a VoIP
company with a money back guarantee.

    Traveling with VoIP

    By admin | November 20, 2008

The vast array of features that VoIP has to offer allows the technology to be used in a myriad of ways. One advantage VoIP telephony has over traditional phone service is its ability to travel with you. By this, we mean that with VoIP you can travel locally or internationally and keep the same number, move house and have no break in service or simply go on vacation and have your same number and features. Cell phones can potentially fill this niche, however it is expensive to have a service that will work internationally and when moving house or going on vacation there is no guarantee that there will be coverage at your new location.

VoIP offers a number of features that not only allow you to travel but will make it an advantage to take your VoIP phone with you rather than say a cell phone or pay those expensive hotel rates. Below we will introduce a few of these features.

First, you must find a plan that that has the travel global feature. Use our advanced search to see all the Service Providers that support this feature. This feature, allows you to take your IP ready phone or ATA and plug it into any broadband connection around the world and you will have the same service and features you are accustomed to at home. This can be extremely useful to you when visiting family abroad as I do. I take my VoIP phone with me and stay in touch for free. Having the same phone number also means that you can easily be reached and there are no surprise phone charges for the people who call you. Not something you are likely to see with a cell phone plan.

For business users Call transfer is an extremely beneficial feature. This allows you to transfer a call you have already answered to another number. Effectively you are taking your office network with you. Again this feature is not available with your standard Cell phone but does came as standard with most VoIP plans.

PC to Phone or sometimes referred to as softphone can be a cheaper alternative or more convenient than traveling with an ATA or an IP ready phone. A simple software download and you can turn your PC into your telephone. You will still have all the features of VoIP but you will use your laptop to make and receive calls. For business travelers you are almost guaranteed a phone service from anywhere in the world, excellent value for money at $10 a month.

The above features are network features in that they depend upon the Service Provider you choose. However, the introduction in recent years of the IP ready phone, which has the ATA built in, offers consumers a whole host of new features and applications. The Video Phone is one such application that is becoming more and more common place. Video over cellular networks such as TDMA, GSM, GPRS, EDGE or even 3G networks have proved problematic. Only when using 3G networks is it realistically possible and that then depends on the number of people sharing your wireless bandwidth. If you take into account the size of 3G cell phones, video becomes impractical. With VoIP, as you are using a broadband internet connection, you are guaranteed the bandwidth to have good resolution video.

VoIP is expanding at an exponential rate and with its protocol well defined, it promises the integration that has been promised but has never been realized with the cell phone industry. New standards like WI-MAX are well suited to VoIP and several service providers have been testing their service using this new standard. The future of VoIP is well assured, and perhaps it won’t be long before you are carrying your IP ready phone rather than a cell phone and battery charger.

How You Can Benefit From VoIP

    By admin | October 20, 2008

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and is quickly taking the internet over by storm.

The most obvious benefit of VoIP is the big savings it provides compared to what people pay for their phone service from their telephone company.

Let us have a closer look. Say you pay $30 a month for your basic telephone line, that will be $360 a year. That does not include any extras like Caller ID, Call Forwarding or Voice Mail. Those alone can easily bring the annual basic phone bill to over $500 plus taxes.

All that without considering any long distance costs. And you know how much that can add up to.

Now, many VoIP providers give you a year of full featured internet telephony for under $200. And that includes just about any extra calling features, like Caller ID, that you can think of. Then, you also get with it a long distance to and from traditional phones - for a fraction of the cost of what you can get from your local telephone company or even from the best long distance discount service! Plus - you can also get some extra perks like local phone numbers in various parts of the words.

As if that weren’t enough the voice quality of VoIP is often much superior to what you get from a regular phone. The main reason for that is that the regular phone everyone is so used to carries the voice over a very narrow band of sound frequencies - from zero to little over 3,000Hz (cycles per second). Meantime VoIP, in it’s original digital range, gives you much wider voice bandwidth - comparable to the hearing range of an average human being which is 20Hz to 20,000Hz. When I first time used my VoIP phone and heard the voice quality of it for myself I could hardly believe my ears - it was that good!

If you are ready to join the VoIP wave there is no better time then now - the surf is up!
